EDIT: Okay, I just got my first bit of hate mail in note form, I won't say from whom though because I don't want a flame war, that's for SheezyArt.
First off, I'm not making fun of people that draw fanart, to be honest, I love fanart, the way I see it was the artist's interpretation of one of their respected characters that they love and/or grew up with in tribute to that character and the creator... but since joining DA that meaning's changed, fanart means "pageviews" "Butchered characters"(Homosexual KH characters) "An individual expression of ones passion that everyone seems to have" and a retarded fanbase follows.
Now, don't get me wrong, to those that draw what they like I respect them for it, hell I draw what I like, but there are those that draw fanart and just REFUSE to draw anything else or at least TRY something new. And these people wanna be animators or "Professional Manga Artists" Sorry to fuck up your shit, but getting into the industry takes a lot more effort than drawing a chibi Ichigo giving a kissy face.
A recurring problem with fanart that seems to be going around is Tracing... let's clarify something... Tracing's not a form of art. I've seen people that replicate pictures of the official fanart pieces from time to time, but they've actually said, "I'm practicing, this isn't my real art." to them I salute you, you're honest people... but then there are those that trace drawings and say, "I reproduced it" and pass it off as their own. Even if you didn't place paper over it and trace it, looking off the image and "replicating" the drawing is just as bad. But they get ANGRY when you tell them the truth. Remember the ol' saying, "The truth with set you free?" Hahah well sorry, that hasn't worked since... ever.
Another thing people seem to think they have when they draw fanart is "individuality" well, yes, they do... and so does everyone else. The term "Unique" is tossed around a lot too, well... unique is a fancy term for different, not useful or good. "Creativity" now this seems to be what people THINK they have the most just because they "do what they want"... sorry... I'll explain what creativity is.
Creativity is expressing one's self in a different way, introducing new things to others whether they succeed or not, thinking of what hasn't been expressed and how to express it, and piecing together what you know to create something.
Now for those that draw just fanart and still think they are "Different" look around the site... you notice how there are people that draw the same "content" you do? THEY'RE JUST LIKE YOU!!
Now it's not my place to say what you can and can't draw, it's no one's place to say that. But stop saying or thinking you're "creative" when you draw Sora having a 3-way with Riku and Axel, because you're not (in this case you're just plain disgusting), you're just like the many other people that draw copyrighted characters and most of the times do a horrible job at it.
But you think that provoked me to make this 40 second work of art? No. Someone said to me, "You know, you'd be more popular if you draw some fanart of things people actually like." ... well... I'm sorry if the only Final Fantasy games I like is 6 and Crystal Chronicles, I'm sorry I don't LOVE Naruto, and I'm sorry I don't fantasize about Sora, Riku and Organization XIIIVFGD going at it like rabbits on Viagra. I actually have things I wanna draw that will be something. But I suppose drawing fanart for 31 days in October didn't count either... *shrugs*
It's 10:16... I'm gonna get some breakfast...
I swear, I'll post more drawings. I promise.
EDIT2: Okay, apparently there's some confusion as to why they're poorly drawn and/or half assed. Well, it could be that it was done extremely quickly and I was proving a point about fanart being this type of quality or even lower... I don't know, whatever the case maybe it's a joke, don't take it seriously, this isn't how I normally draw I promise you.
EDIT3: Alright, so it's been brought to my attention that people misunderstood yet AGAIN. "TRACING ISN'T BAD, UNLESS IT'S PRACTICE!!" I know I said people that trace or replicate something is not a form of art, but I also said that people that trace or replicate to "PRACTICE" is fine, just as long as they don't try to pass it off as their own work. Truth be told, animators trace... ALWAYS. Whether it be in cartoons, movies or just matching a copyrighted character for said movie. This technique "trains" the artist's hand, through repetition you get the feel of a character's lines and overall craft. This technique also works on "Anatomy" How do you think Korean animators draw so fast? THEY TRACE! Most of them, when at work, trace the character model sheets over and over and over and over and over and over again until they're warmed up and get the feel of how the character, they're recreating in multiple frames, is built. Through PRACTICE. I wasn't knocking on people for tracing in general, I was saying "Tracing, THEN passing the traced artwork off as your own creation is not a form of art!" So if you trace, that's fine, as long as it's a form of practice. I hope that clarifies it for you.
